"History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it."

—Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) American writer known for free verse, Smoke and Steel

Elaine's first Vail Valentine was a special one-of-a-kind gift for the man in her life, Frank McCluer. Inspired by the move to Eagle County and the man who brought her out here, Elaine painted a watercolor Valentine for him. It became a tradition and every year she has created a new card, each with a skiing or snow theme and a heart. Since then she has printed the cards and made them avaiable for sale in shops around Vail. Please join Elaine at her reception from 3:00 until 6:00 pm today.
