"If you will protest courageously, and yet with dignity and Christian love, when the history books are written in future generations, the historians will have to pause and say, There lived a great people-a black people-who injected new meaning and dignity into the veins of civilization."

—Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-68) African-American reverend, civil rights leader

Vail Public library will host a poetry reading and discussion as part of the teen summer reading program whose theme is “Beneath the Surface”. Memory is great fodder for writing, but how does a poet harness it? Join Heather Taylor Johnson for a poetry reading and a discussion on process and the traces of memory.

Johnson is the author of three books of poetry, Thirsting for Lemonade (IP) being her latest, and has a novel coming out later this year - Pursuing Love and Death (Harper Collins). Her work draws on concepts of home and the spaces between the boundaries where migrants dwell. Family and memory are pivotal.
